2017 Collective Grants
We have completed the initial review of the grant applications submitted for completeness, etc. and oriented the new and returning Grant Sub Circle members. We are now in the grant reading period and grant applicant interviews, which will end October 10. Call 703-665-9334 or email grants@givingcircleofHOPE.org if you have questions.
This year we have received over 45 grant applications. Each application represents a small nonprofit from our community that needs funding to continue helping those in need. For a donation of $415 ($365 for grants plus $50 administration fee) made by October 31, you can participate fully in making decisions about our grant allocations. See our list of donors.
Make a difference by strategically investing your philanthropic dollars in Northern Virginia and learning about needs in your local community. Members contribute time, talents, and money and collectively decide how to use them to create positive change. We make it easy to be engaged in the community. Each member is valued, welcomed, nurtured, and given opportunities to GIVE, SERVE, LEARN, and LEAD.
A New Way To Membership with Monthly Contributions
Make a contribution to the Giving Circle of HOPE with automatic monthly donations. The amount you specify will be charged automatically to the credit card you provide. This option allows you to contribute throughout the year. It also gives us a better sense of the number of grants we will be able to support earlier in the grant review process. Before you know it, you’ll be a full voting member!
Bylaws Tune Up
Why tune up our Bylaws?
We have experience in our new organizational model in the two years since the original founders of the Giving Circle of HOPE transitioned to our new Guiding Circle organization and we have changed some of the practices that were detailed in the Bylaws, so we need to tune the Bylaws up again.
What Does This Tune Up Look Like?
- Where appropriate we made the Bylaws less prescriptive and detailed to be more flexible with the result of needing to modify them less frequently. An example of this is removing the detail of quarterly meetings.
- Removed extraneous information such as the benefits of membership.
- Clarified the definition of membership and the voting members rights and responsibilities.
- Clarified the fiscal year to be November 1 through October 31 of the following year.
- Defined the roles and responsibilities of the Guiding Circle positions at a higher level.
- Added the Big Give concept of grant-making to the procedure for awarding grants.

DECEMBER 2 with A Simple Gesture – Reston
This is a door-to-door food collection program. Donors receive a really cool, green bag, which they fill with non-perishable food items. Volunteers are needed to pick up the bags from donors and/or unload the food and stock shelves. Please contact A Simple Gesture to volunteer.
