Collective Grants

Since 2004 the Giving Circle of HOPE (GCH) has awarded 141 Project and Capacity Building Effort (CBE) grants to 59 local nonprofits selected, reviewed and voted on by its membership. Our 15th consecutive grant season opened on Monday May 21, 2018 and closed on Tuesday July 31, 2018 at 5 p.m.

For Prospective Grantees: In 2018, the GCH will award project and capacity-building grants to local non-profits in these two mission areas: Health, Mental Health and Aging and Poverty Relief. Grant requests may be up to $7,000. The Project or CBE budget may not exceed $70,000 and must be documented. Please note important changes in our 2018 Collective Grants Program:

  • Applications will be taken online through Foundant and hosted on the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s website. General information and eligibility criteria are currently available at
  • An applicant’s Total Organization Financial Budget excluding in-kind services must be equal to or less than $1 million.

For GCH Members: The GCH combines annual donations from its members and awards grants up to $7,000. All donations contributed each year are awarded within the current grant cycle. Members are invited to participate in the 2018 grant review process (Grant Sub-Committee) which will occur in the September-early October 2018 time frame. Grant Sub-Committee recommendations will be sent to all GCH members who then cast their vote to determine grant recipients.

If you have further questions or are a GCH Members wishing to join the 2018 Grant Sub-Committee: Please contact GCH Grant Co-Chairs Sheila Morris and Donna Whitaker at or phone 703-665-9334.
